Yungblud is a singer-songwriter from Doncaster, England. His debut single “King Charles”, released in 2017, was branded a “protest song” by Tenement TV. His second single followed just five months later, titled “I Love You, Will You Marry Me” and the artist described it as “a comment on corporate companies trying to make money out of something as precious as love”. Protest and comment would become common themes in Yungblud’s career with many of his songs offering opinions on serious topics such as sexual assault and the working class.

In 2018, Yungblud released his EP “polygraph eyes” and later that year announced that his songs “Tin Pan Boy” and “Falling Skies” (featuring Charlotte Lawrence) would feature on the soundtrack of season 2 of Netflix show “13 Reasons Why”. This and his supporting slot on K.Flay’s tour really began to push Yungblud towards the limelight.

His LP “21st Century Liability” is, in my opinion, what really captured the majority of his fanbases’ attention, it was certainly what grabbed mine. Not only did many of the songs on the album strike a chord within people, they also became “TikTok” trends. People used sound bites from songs such as “parents” to lip sync to, as the backing track for their makeup application and so much more. Young and underrepresented people began to feel like they had a voice. Like someone understood and was expressing all the things they had had to hide for so long.

2019 saw the release of album “The Underrated Youth” and a further climb into the hearts of fans and expanded his fan base. The album held a similar theme to his last and he maintained the same image throughout,

2020 has given us a new “era” of Yungblud. We are just days away from the release of his new album “Weird”, which will feature singles such as “Strawberry Lipstick”, “Cotton Candy” and “Mars” and I, for one, am very excited.
