Michael Ball OBE is a singer and actor from Bromsgrove, England. Michael began performing at a young age, attending the Guildford School of Acting before making his way to the professional stage. He made his West End debut in 1985, aged just 23, as Marius in Les Miserables. His theatre career only flourished from there. He has since appeared in Hairspray, Phantom of the Opera, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Woman In White, Sweeney Todd and more. Most recently he appeared in an all-star staged concert of Les Miserables, where he played Inspector Javert. He is due to revive his role of Edna Turnblad in Hairspray later this year, global circumstances permitting.

Many people may know him for his performance of “One Step Out Of Time” as the UK’s representative at the 1992 Eurovision Song Contest. Michael placed 2nd overall with a total score of 139.

More recently he has branched out from theatre, forming a double act with Alfie Boe and released a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone” with Captain Tom Moore as a charity single for the NHS. He also has a weekly radio show on a Sunday morning on BBC Radio 2.

His recent charitable actions combined with his undeniable talent and unfaltering positive outlook is why Michael Ball is my artist of the week.
