JLS (originally named UFO) are a British boyband formed back in 2007. They competed on The X Factor in 2008, finishing in second place, but that didn’t stop them from achieving their dreams of a chart-topping career. They released their first album “JLS” in November 2009 and it dropped in for two weeks in the number one spot, with two singles from the album also topping the charts.

The success didn’t stop there, they released three more studio albums before the start of their hiatus in 2013. Each one made it to the top three and spent 10+ weeks in the charts. They collaborated with artists such as Tinie Tempah, Dev and Bebe O’Hare. The band went on tour a few times, each show more spectacular than the last. I was lucky enough to see them in concert 3 times during the first wave of their career and was blown away each time.

One of the things that fans love about the group is their colour scheme. Each member has their own colour which has appeared on pretty much everything from their microphone to the soles of their shoes. Fans would sport the colour of their favourite member with pride. Aston fans wore blue, Marvin fans green, Oritsé fans red and those who loved JB sported yellow.

The band played their final show before their hiatus on December 22nd 2013. Fans around the world were heartbroken, holding onto the hope that they would one day return, and earlier this year their dreams came true. JLS announced that they would return. They went on to announce their Beat Again tour (which I am lucky enough to have tickets to and to say I’m excited about it is an understatement) and have also released a teaser trailer suggesting they are recording new music.

Although their tour has been postponed to next summer, fans, myself included, are waiting with baited breath to hear what the boys have been working on, and seeing them live once again.

JLS were one of the first bands I was a huge fan of. Their poster hung above my bed and it was rare to be in the car with me, or anywhere in my house without their music blasting. My love has never and likely will never die out, and that is why they are my artist of the week.
