Adele, born 5th May 1988, is a British singer-songwriter. Since the start of her career she has climbed from strength to strength, winning Grammy awards and performing in a headline slot on the Glastonbury pyramid stage back in 2016.
Adele released her first album, titled 19 (after her age during its creation), back in 2008. It featured 12 songs, including some of Adele’s most iconic hits such as “Chasing Pavements” and “Make You Feel My Love”. The album reached number one on the charts and stayed there for a week. Although no singles from this album reached number one, “Chasing Pavements” did peak at number two, an impressive feat for a young debuting artist.
Her second album, 21 (again, her age during creation), not only reached number one as an album but spent a whopping 23 weeks on top of the charts. It also contained Adele’s first number one single, “Someone Like You”, which spent 5 weeks at the top. It also had other hits, such as “Rolling in the Deep” and “Set Fire to the Rain” which became fast fan favourites and were often heard being belted out of people’s car windows at the time (my own included 😂😂).
Before Adele released her third album, she was given the honour of writing a Bond theme tune. “Skyfall” was released in 2012 and narrowly missed out on the number one spot, like many Bond themes, and peaked at number two. It is a beautiful song and was, in my opinion wholly worthy of the top spot on the charts.
Adele’s third studio album, 25 (can you guess why??), was released in 2015 and was yet another number one album. It remained in top spot for an impressive 13 weeks and had a number one single on its track list. “Hello” spent three weeks at number one. This track list also contained some fast fan favourites and made up a significant amount of her Glastonbury set list the following year.
In an interview with James Corden, as part of his popular mini-series “Carpool Karaoke”, Adele revealed that 25 would be the last album she released titled after her age because she “believes in trilogies”. She has never ruled out new music so fans around the world, myself included, wait excitedly for her next album and whether she releases in next year or in 5 years time, I’m sure it’ll be just as incredible, if not more so, than the first 3.
